Understanding the concern
Loss of connective tissue, which mainly includes collagen and elastin. Since our 30’s, our body tends to lose more connective tissue than it can generate. Connective tissue is made of proteins that hold all the surrounding structures of skin together. Hence, when we lose it, our skin becomes saggy (skin laxity). This happens given the effect of gravity, pollution and sun related aging of our skin. This treatment is very effective for larger areas of the face and neck, for the abdomen, thighs, buttocks etc. This is the indication that we discuss in detail on this page.
Sagging skin describes a change in firmness or the position of skin and underlying tissues. The jawline, neck, face and body can be affected in different ways.
Causes and contributing factors
Age-related tissue change, sun exposure, weight change and shifts in facial volume may contribute. Loose skin and loss of volume are related but distinct concerns.
How it is assessed
Assessment considers the degree of laxity, tissue thickness, volume and the area involved. A treatment that suits a fuller face may not suit a leaner one.
When to seek medical advice
An abrupt change, a new swelling or a change affecting only one side needs medical assessment. These should not automatically be attributed to ageing.
Treatment and management options
Options may include skincare, radiofrequency, focused ultrasound, selected injectable treatments, threads or surgical assessment. Each addresses a different aspect of support or skin quality.
Dermal Threads ↗
Here, 2-4 dermal threads (made of inert material) are introduced under the skin. The threads have a hook on the end and attach to the sub-dermal area targeted by your dermatologist. These threads pull up the skin as you would expect and the reaction of the tissue surrounding the thread helps tighten it further. Don’t worry, it’s not as painful it may sound in the hands of a trained aesthetic dermatologist like the ones empaneled with us.
HIFU Facelift ↗
HIFU uses ultrasound waves (at high intensity) to stimulate growth of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are the connective tissues of the body. This means that they act like the cement in case your skin was like a brick structure and they hold the skin together. Sagging of skin with age occurs due to the loss of connective tissue. Regeneration of connective tissue helps with tightening the surrounding structures and pulls up the sagging skin. This leads to the dramatic change that is visible after even a single session. The results from HIFU start showing 3-4 weeks after your session and they keeping improving for 3 months after the session. You can expect to see the tightening of sagging skin and the treatment is particularly effective for the jaw area and for tightening post weight-loss.
Skin Tightening (RF) ↗
RF treatment involves the use of radiofrequency waves to help your body regenerate the connective tissue (collagen) that it has lost over the years. It generates heat under the layers of skin superficially and this action leads to your body reacting by generating more collagen in the superficial layers. This in turn helps tighten the structures below the skin and hence helps you lose the saggy appearance. In the case of RF, a single session is often not enough although you will start seeing results. You may need 3-6 sessions to see the desired levels of change. The treatment is delivered with the help of a hand-held device.
What improvement can look like
Non-surgical treatment usually offers a different scale of improvement from surgery. More energy or more filler is not automatically better for the final contour.
HIFU Facelift for Sagging Skin
The treatment is highly effective for loose skin, as can be seen in the result images.
Skin Tightening (RF) for Sagging Skin
The results achieved in the shared image are after 3 sessions of RF treatment.
Dermal Threads for Sagging Skin
Dermal threads are very effective in getting immediate results of skin tightening with results that last for 18-24 months.

Understanding your treatment choices
A softer jawline, loose neck skin and a hollow-looking cheek can all be described as sagging, but they do not have the same cause. Skin laxity, changes in facial fat and underlying support contribute in different proportions. A treatment that helps one component may do little for another.
Energy treatments such as HIFU or RF may be considered for selected firmness concerns. Fillers may help where support or volume is missing, and threads may be discussed in suitable cases. More substantial excess skin may call for a surgical opinion. Understanding those differences helps you compare the scale of change with the recovery and maintenance involved.
It is useful to show the clinician what bothers you when the face is relaxed, rather than only when you lift the skin with your fingers. That manual lift may suggest a result that a non-surgical treatment cannot reproduce. The assessment also needs to account for a naturally lean face so that improving firmness does not come at the expense of volume you want to retain.
Review contour with the same posture, lighting and camera distance. Some changes develop gradually, and combining procedures too quickly can make the result difficult to assess. A staged plan lets you see what each treatment contributes before deciding on the next step.
Everyday care and prevention
Protect skin from sun, avoid smoking and aim for sustainable weight habits. Good skincare can support skin health, but it cannot remove substantial excess skin.
Common questions
What treatments are considered best for the treatment of sagging skin?
The best treatments to help tighten loose skin include: - HIFU treatment - Radiofrequency treatment - Dermal threads
How is the right care plan chosen?
Assessment considers the degree of laxity, tissue thickness, volume and the area involved. A treatment that suits a fuller face may not suit a leaner one.
What can I do as part of everyday care?
Protect skin from sun, avoid smoking and aim for sustainable weight habits. Good skincare can support skin health, but it cannot remove substantial excess skin.
When should I get advice?
An abrupt change, a new swelling or a change affecting only one side needs medical assessment. These should not automatically be attributed to ageing.
