Understanding the treatment
HIFU is short for High intensity focused ultrasound. The treatment involves the application of ultrasound waves to deeper layers f skin that promotes connective tissue growth
HIFU uses ultrasound waves (at high intensity) to stimulate growth of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are the connective tissues of the body. This means that they act like the cement in case your skin was like a brick structure and they hold the skin together. Sagging of skin with age occurs due to the loss of connective tissue. Regeneration of connective tissue helps with tightening the surrounding structures and pulls up the sagging skin. This leads to the dramatic change that is visible after even a single session.
HIFU is a non-surgical treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy to improve selected areas of skin laxity. It is often considered for the jawline, neck or other areas where a firmer appearance is the goal. The treatment plan depends on the amount of laxity, tissue thickness and underlying facial volume.
How it works
The results from HIFU start showing 3-4 weeks after your session and they keeping improving for 3 months after the session. You can expect to see the tightening of sagging skin and the treatment is particularly effective for the jaw area and for tightening post weight-loss.
Focused ultrasound produces controlled heating at selected depths beneath the skin. The resulting tissue response can stimulate collagen remodelling. The clinician selects the treatment depth and energy for the area rather than applying one setting to every face.
Suitability and assessment
Mild to moderate laxity, skin thickness and underlying facial volume require assessment. A person with substantial excess skin or limited facial fat may need a different plan.
What happens during treatment
The clinician maps suitable areas and selects a device and depth. Ultrasound gel is applied, energy is delivered in planned lines and the person is monitored for discomfort.
In-person Consultation
Consulting the dermatologist is the first step of any treatment at SkinGenious. You will meet the dermatologist, share your concerns and history regarding pigmentation. The dermatologist will then plan the ideal plan of treatment, which for skin tightening, may be the HIFU treatment.
Pre-treatment preparation
Preparation for the treatment involves cleaning up the face or any other target area. After this, numbing cream will be applied to keep discomfort during the treatment to a minimum.
Treatment with HIFU machine
The HIFU probe of the right strength as decided by the dermatologist will be used to perform the treatment. You may feel electric sensations as the treatment goes on, it is normal.
Results and limitations
Skin firmness and contour can improve gradually as tissue remodels over weeks to months. The scale of change depends on the starting laxity and anatomy. A non-surgical plan offers a different degree of lifting from surgery, and follow-up helps assess the result before another session is considered.
HIFU Facelift for Sagging Skin
The treatment is highly effective for loose skin, as can be seen in the result images.
Before and after results
These photographs come from the existing treatment and concern records. They illustrate individual outcomes. Your starting point, treatment plan and healing response affect your own result.

Risks and recovery
Tenderness, swelling and temporary altered sensation can occur. Burns, nerve injury and unwanted fat loss are potential complications of energy-based treatment.
Preparing for treatment
Bring details of previous procedures, medicines, allergies and any change in your health. Ask which skincare products or activities need adjusting before the appointment. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice.
Any change to prescribed medicines, including blood thinners, must be agreed with the prescribing clinician.
- If you do not smoke, it means your body has much better chances of generating more connective tissue and bruising lesser as well.
- Avoid the treatments in pregnancy or during breastfeeding. There aren’t enough studies on the safety profile.
- Also, you need to remove all make-up etc. from the face as the treatment is applied on the skin directly with only a gel application. You may prepare from home for this, or remove your make-up and other skin products at the clinic itself.
Aftercare
Use gentle skincare and follow the clinician's advice. Persistent weakness, severe pain, skin damage or prolonged numbness should be assessed promptly.
Alternatives to consider
Radiofrequency, resurfacing and surgery address different causes of an ageing appearance. The degree of laxity and facial volume are more useful guides than the device name alone.
Planning treatment and maintenance
HIFU is often chosen by someone who wants a firmer jawline or neck without the recovery associated with surgery. The most useful question is where the apparent sagging comes from. Skin laxity, loss of facial volume and a heavier lower face can look similar in photographs but may need different plans.
During assessment, the clinician considers tissue thickness and the structures beneath the treatment area. The device, treatment depth and placement are selected around that anatomy. More energy or more treatment lines do not automatically produce a better result. In a face with little underlying fat, protecting facial volume is particularly important.
Improvement develops as the tissue responds over the following weeks and months. Arrange photographs with similar lighting, expression and camera distance so that a change in contour can be judged fairly. An immediate photograph can be useful as a record, but it is not the final outcome.
HIFU can fit into a wider plan, but combining procedures needs thought. Fillers address volume, muscle-relaxing injections address movement-related lines, and resurfacing addresses the skin surface. Ask which part of your concern each proposed treatment is meant to improve. If there is substantial loose skin, it is also useful to understand what a surgical consultation could offer before committing to repeated non-surgical treatments.
What affects the cost
The area treated, the product or device, the treatment plan and the number of sessions influence the total. A useful estimate explains what is included, what follow-up involves and whether maintenance is likely. City pages provide the local service information.
Common questions
Is HIFU skin tightening treatment painful?
Yes, during the course of the treatment you will feel certain sensations that may be uncomfortable. Numbing cream is applied to minimize your discomfort.
What are the most common areas where HIFU is used?
The most common target areas for HIFU are the lower face and the abdomen. The treatment is quite effective for both target areas.
What should I understand before choosing HIFU facelift?
Mild to moderate laxity, skin thickness and underlying facial volume require assessment. A person with substantial excess skin or limited facial fat may need a different plan.
What results should I expect?
Any improvement develops gradually and varies between individuals. Treatment cannot prevent future ageing, and the need for another session should be reviewed rather than assumed.
How do I compare this with other options?
Radiofrequency, resurfacing and surgery address different causes of an ageing appearance. The degree of laxity and facial volume are more useful guides than the device name alone.
