Understanding this area of care
Laser treatments are treatments where intervention with a laser machine is the primary line of treatment for a given concern. These treatments use multiple different kinds of lasers like the Q-switch, diode laser and fractional Co2 laser
Laser treatments use selected wavelengths of light for specific targets in the skin or hair. The category includes very different procedures, from hair reduction to scar resurfacing.
Concerns and goals
Targets can include pigment, tattoo ink, hair follicles and skin texture. A device suited to one target may be unsuitable for another.
Approaches and treatment options
Options include hair-reduction lasers, pigment lasers and ablative or non-ablative resurfacing. IPL is a related light-based approach but is not a laser.
Fractional Co2 Laser Resurfacing ↗
In the earlier days of laser treatment for acne scars, your dermatologist would have spoken to you about using ablative or non-ablative lasers for the treatment. Ablative lasers act on the deeper layers of the skin which contain connective tissue and hence stimulate them to grow. Non-ablative laser work mostly on the superficial layers of skin.
With the advent of the fractional Co2 laser, things have changed for the better. It works on both the epidermis and dermis.
Laser Tattoo Removal ↗
The treatment could use different types of lasers, such as alexandrite or the q-switch Nd:YAG. At our clinics, we use the Q-switch laser method. This treatment is considered the most effective for removal of permanent tattoos. The Q-switch laser is a revolutionary technology used for the tattoo removal treatment. The name of the laser comes from the fact that this type of laser machine can produce a pulsed output beam which enables it to produce pulses of very high power.
Q-switch laser ↗
This laser is considered the gold standard treatment for pigmentation problems. It involves the use of pulses of light at specific wavelengths, target pigment molecules
How the options differ
Wavelength, pulse duration, treatment depth and cooling affect what a device can do. A machine name or higher setting does not establish that it is the right treatment.
Choosing an approach
The diagnosis, skin tone, recent sun exposure and expected downtime guide selection. Test treatment may be useful for some targets and skin types.
Outcomes and limitations
Laser treatments are highly effective when administered by a trained professional. Below are some before and after pictures to visualize the effectiveness of the treatments available. Laser treatments target specific concerns very precisely. Some common concerns resolved include acne scars and pigmentation.
Results can involve a course of treatments and time for healing or pigment clearance. Complete removal of every mark, scar or hair is not a realistic universal promise.
Fractional Co2 Laser Resurfacing for Acne scars
Like all cosmetic treatments, you have to be practical with your expectations for improvement with acne scars. You may expect 60-90% improvement in your scar marks. In case the expected improvement is less than this, our skin specialist is most likely to tell you to not go ahead with the treatment.
Laser Tattoo Removal for Unwanted tattoo
You will require multiple sessions with this treatment. The tattoo will appear lighter in every subsequent session till maximum reversion is achieved. Professional tattoos could take anything between 5-10 sessions whereas amateur tattoos could be managed in 3-6 sessions. Reversion may not be 100% in all cases.
A ghost shadow of the tattoo will almost always continue to be visible, but can easily be covered with cosmetic products.
Q-switch laser for Hyperpigmentation
The Q-swith Nd:YAG laser works very well on pigmentation. Specific wavelengths of light work on the correct shade of pigmentation.
Fractional Co2 Laser Resurfacing for open pores
The treatment is quite effective in tightening pores and significant results are seen even after a single session.
Fractional Co2 Laser Resurfacing for Wrinkles
Fractional Co2 laser resurfacing is effective for superficial wrinkles and fine lines. It is therefore beneficial for early signs of aging.

Putting a treatment plan together
Laser treatment is a family of procedures, not one interchangeable service. Different wavelengths and ways of delivering energy are used to target pigment, vessels, hair or water in tissue. That is why a laser used for hair reduction is not automatically the one chosen for a tattoo, scar or patch of redness.
Diagnosis comes before device selection. A brown patch may be a sun spot, melasma or a mark left by inflammation. A surface that looks scarred may instead have flat pigment changes. The dermatologist needs to identify the target and consider your skin tone, recent tanning, previous reactions and the amount of recovery you can accommodate.
Ask which device is proposed, why it suits the target and whether another approach would be more useful. Sometimes a topical medicine, peel or combination plan is a better first step. IPL is often discussed alongside lasers but uses a filtered range of light rather than a single laser wavelength. Understanding that distinction can make treatment comparisons clearer.
A course should include review points. Hair reduction is assessed through regrowth, tattoo treatment through changes in the ink, and resurfacing through texture after recovery and remodelling. One universal session schedule does not make sense across all these goals.
Preparation and aftercare also vary. The clinic should explain tanning restrictions, relevant medicines, eye protection and how the area will heal. Compare results using photographs taken under similar conditions and allow the planned interval before judging the change. An appropriate device, trained operator and well-chosen settings matter more than the newest machine name on a brochure.
Safety and ongoing care
Eye protection, appropriate settings and sun-related precautions are important. Burns, pigment changes and scarring are relevant risks to discuss for the actual procedure.
Common questions
What are the kinds of lasers available at your clinics?
We have various different kinds of laser machines, including diode, fractional and Q-switch lasers.
Are laser treatments provided under dermatologist supervision?
Yes, all laser treatments are provided under the direct supervision of one of the top dermatologists in the city.
What laser machines do you use for laser hair removal?
Our clinics have triple and quadruple wave diode laser machines that are used for laser hair removal. They are USFDA approved.
Where should I start?
The diagnosis, skin tone, recent sun exposure and expected downtime guide selection. Test treatment may be useful for some targets and skin types.
Are all treatments in this category similar?
Wavelength, pulse duration, treatment depth and cooling affect what a device can do. A machine name or higher setting does not establish that it is the right treatment.
What should I expect from a care plan?
Results can involve a course of treatments and time for healing or pigment clearance. Complete removal of every mark, scar or hair is not a realistic universal promise.
